Jennifer Cortez known by her stage name, "The Prof", is a Canadian, Ecuadorian, vocalist, songwriter, sound healer and teacher. Raised in Toronto and Scarborough during elementary years, Jennifer was heavily influenced by r&b, reggae, hip hop and latin music, as well as diversity and multiculturalism in her community. Jennifer's mother and grandmother were both recognized recording artists in Ecuador, South America, known for their vinyl record, entitled, "Cantares Ecuatorianos". Inspired by her musical, Ecuadorian roots, Jennifer began singing lessons at age 12, where her journey with music began. In the early 2000s, Jennifer began writing original lyrics, collaborating with local artists and performing locally at events, causes and fundraisers such as, Amnesty International, Woman's International Day, Toronto's Latin Community, Fundraiser for the Earthquakes in Ecuador, and Toronto's Latin, Inti Raymi Festival. Her single "Himno Latino" ft. Juno Nominee Arabesque rotated on several media outlets and hit Toronto radio waves, supported by both the Toronto Latin and Urban community in 2008. "Himno Latino" was featured on her released physical, CD album, entitled, "Through the Rain" by Jennifer Cortez.
In addition to music, Jennifer had a diploma and working experience as an art director, designer and marketing professional for over 17 years which led to teaching as a college professor for the School of Media Studies at Humber College. Thus, "The Prof" stage name resulted from her job in 2018. Jennifer wanted to make sure "The Prof" was a fun, light-hearted, colourful brand that focused on good vibes music, tropical eclectic fusions of Latin and Caribbean rhythms. You can find The Prof's album, "Out of Office", her singles, "Hypnotic Dance", "Peek-A-Boo", "About That" and "Ice Cream" on all digital platforms including, Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music.
